How to Evaluate a Trading Platform Independently

Platform reviews online tend to fall into two camps: promotional pages that exist to earn referral revenue, and complaint threads written at the worst possible moment. Neither is research. This article describes the neutral checklist we use across the site, including for LW Management.
1. Corporate and regulatory transparency
- Is the operating entity named clearly, with jurisdiction and registration details?
- Are the terms of service, risk disclosure and complaint procedure publicly readable without registration?
- Do marketing claims match the legal documentation?
Transparency is not a guarantee of quality, but the absence of it is the single most reliable negative signal in the sector. Documentation that is hard to find is a finding in itself.

2. Cost structure
Costs should be reconstructable from public documentation without contacting support. We look for a published spread or commission schedule, financing rates, conversion charges, deposit and withdrawal costs, and any dormancy fees. If total cost of ownership cannot be estimated from the website, the platform scores poorly regardless of interface quality.
3. Execution and order handling
- Documented behaviour for gaps through stop levels.
- Whether negative balance protection exists and for whom.
- How partial fills and rejections are reported.
- Whether historical uptime or incident reporting is published.
4. Tooling and analytics
Good tooling exposes risk rather than hiding it: aggregate exposure, margin utilisation, realistic position sizing calculators, exportable trade history. Flashy charting is common; portfolio-level risk visibility is rare and far more useful.
5. Support and dispute path
Test the documented support channels before they matter. Response time on a simple pre-account question is a reasonable proxy for response time on a difficult one. Equally important: does a documented escalation and complaints path exist, and does it reference an external body?
6. Educational quality
Educational material that emphasises probability, cost and drawdown is a positive signal. Material that emphasises profit screenshots, urgency and lifestyle imagery is a negative one. This distinction is often more informative than any feature list.
Applying all six criteria to a single platform is what our LW Management review does, and our research methodology page documents scoring in more detail.
